the big 40th--part one

This past week was a BIG one in the Visor family. My mom and dad, know as Aunt and Uncle Visor, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. And in preparation for that the whole fam-dam descended upon our humble B-town for fun and festivities. My MIL let us use their pool one day to keep the natives from getting too restless.
You know, there's nothing like family to put things in perspective. Like, how similar and yet VERY different all of the five year olds are. Just like me and my own sibs.
Like, how your siblings think this little hooligan is so hysterical,....even when he's being naughty. It helps to have that perspective every so often. Then you can giggle along with them in stead of inflicting some sort of pain or punishment. I have an honorary doctorate in yelling/scolding my kids from my experience last week.

Does anyone need to be set straight on anything? Anyone need a good scolding? I'm available for hire.

Another thing that comes into perspective with family is how old you are. This is my niece. The one Shed and I babysat in Provo when we were first married for 3 days while my bro and his wife went camping and who we fed straight cherry kool-aid in her bottle and so "yes she was soooo quiet in church why do you ask?"

She is now a smokin 12 year old with the intelligence and maturity of a 25 year old.

Then your get the perspective that maybe the almost-11 year old you have isn't unusual in his "i am older and cooler now" attitude. ::wiping forehead::
Or you realize just how much your little baby boy looked like you at that age (minus the curls according to everyone else).

And then you remember how hilarious almost-kindergartners can be when put all together.

As they orchestrate a game of "shark" in the pool using colors as a call out. I think Char Char chose the color "Darth Vader" this round. Poor Rachel, the shark, just couldn't get it right.

Then you gain the perspective that other little boys might just be cuter than your own littlest. Mr Ricky is my fave 2 yr old boy on the planet.

Then you realize, through such perspective, that it has been 4 months since you've taken any pictures of this baby girl.

And then you realize that you want to adopt a certain boy named Seth.

Gratuitous shot of baby thighs. Why is it that they don't look as cute on me as they do on her?

And the best perspective of all? Especially for you people.
This is where Aunt Visor gets her name.

I don't think I could be more clear.

It's all about the perspective.
I'm in a state of blissfull exhaustion. after such a week. And I'm slowly coming out of my blogging coma. But there will be more coming soon.

Don't you worry about me.

Only having testosterone in my house creates problems sometimes. Who am I kidding? It creates problems and chaos and ..........uh............energy. ALL THE TIME.

But I've learned how to get my girl fix in different ways. How can you not feel the girlyness oozing all around you when you see this face? I felt the sisterhood of women in the form of twinkling lights, birds chirping, and fairy dust. Of course these were all happening in my head but still.
You know, we girls have to stick together.

It's either that or be overtaken by transformers weilding, unicycle riding (Brains new thing), light saber wars playing, dart gun warring, stinky boys smell. (some of those include Shed, it's only fair that you know that).

So, I'm just gonna take this moment of solitude with me and this loverly girl here and tuck it away to be pulled out in future moments of chaos.

::crashing sounds coming from the kitchen::

Might be sooner rather than later.

Am I getting old?

Don't answer that. I don't really want to know.

Cuz, one day you are in high school. And you have friends. And these friends turn out, years later, to be the cousins of the guy you married. And those people have babies..... And toddlers,........
And down right KIDS.

And you go take their picture and you realize.....

I have an ALMOST 11 year old (going on 16) at home right now. Plus, an 8 and a 5 hooligan

And then................

you feel old.

Yet another reason the iPhone rules

Check out my new theme you gize.

This one's for you

So, I have this cousin,....let's call him J-train. He's my bestest boy cousin EVAH. And he also hearts the life out of me. Isn't that right J-train? See J-train is what we like to call a "blog lurker". He reads but never comments. I, personally, enjoy the lurkers in my life. Shout out to all you peeps that look on the sly!!! So, having recently talked to J-train on the phone, I discovered that my lack of blogging and pictures is not going unnoticed by him. In fact, I had a specific request for a new post.................with pictures. So, since my summer has left me without any sort of solid routine or means of my brain working in its proper function, I will just have to leave you with a few updated pics of the hooligans. I took these for Shed for father's day to put in his new office. So, this one's for you J-train. ENJOY!

PS. I loved talking to you on the phone last night.

Swim Meet

Remember when you were a kid and trying out a new sport/activity/instrument for the first time? You'd been practicing and trying to learn and get better. But then came the time for all of your practice to be tested? And remember how your stomach was doing somersaults and you probably had the sweats and maybe even shaking a little?
Yeah. Well, its a brazillion time worse when you are the mom.
Tell me I'm not alone in this. Someone please throw me a bone here.
Luckily for him, Brains had no such problems being nervous on his first swim meet, which took place a couple of weeks ago.
Photobucket
I've never been a very good swimmer myself. I can doggie paddle like a pro. And I was even a lifeguard in high school so that counts for something right?
But this whole world of swimmers was totally new to me. They write their events, (and other things) on each other with sharpie. Sharpie you gize. Luckily, my good friend who was helping get the kids signed in that morning knew to put the sharpie only on places that the white shirt and tie would cover up. Cuz church the next day and stuff.

New to me. New to me. Not that I wasn't loving every second of it.
Shed kept laughing at me onnacuzza my excitement/nervousness every time his event came up.

Him,......not so much nervous-making.

We camped out by the Luthie's most of the day. Soooper fun.

Who'd have known he'd kill in backstroke.

Check out the groupie's on the other side of the pool cheering him on. Liesl (in the pink) knows how to do it right. She's tutoring me how to be a swimmers mom.

Brains fave part by far was getting to start up on the blocks.

Right here is about the time I'd start sweating right into my pits. Gross. But true. What? You gize don't get those? Well, then I have nothing else to say to you about that.

Breaststroke fer rizzles.
Photobucket

Lollerz he kept looking to the side to see where the other kids were. And then no more laughing cuz you aren't supposed to do that.

This is how the "other's" were doing in the meantime. Cracker brought his magnifying glass and they were burning holes in stuff. Good times.

Alls I can say about this one is that he is luckily worshipped by the Luthie girls and therefore is out of my hair the whole time. Thank heaven for Luthie girls.
I've come to a decision.

Swim meets rule. Girls drool.

Oh wait. Nooo.

Swim meets rule. I'm cool.

Or maybe.

Swim meets rule. Sharpen your tool.

Well, you know what I mean.
