1. Thinking of redoing the flooring in my house. Want a wood look. Do not want real wood. Sooo, tile (looks like wood) or laminate? Those of you with opinions chime in now.
2. Superbowl party at the Shedertons this weekend. Can anyone say "finger foods"?
3. Is anyone as SICK to death of the writer's strike as I am? I need my TV people.
4. I saw the RADDEST movie last night, "The King of Kong". It's a documentary about classic arcade game players. I HIGHLY recommend it.
5. Obsessed with dark chocolate covered almonds. I think I might need an intervention soon.

New flooring is always fun. Especially if it is replacing stained carpet. Wood looks so nice in peoples homes but I am a tile girl.
I miss having a new episode of my favorite shows too.
I also agree, Superbowl parties=lots of good finger foods and fun friends. Also, maybe a few extra pounds the next day and a heck of a mess with all the kids.
But worth the good time.
I think you are so hot! You wanna go out?
I would NOT do laminate! I've had it and hated it. But, I've heard it's gotten better the last couple years and you can get some cool looks that don't look like laminate. I personally love my wood floors and they are really easy to maintain. Tile is always nice too.
Writers strike is definitely making me mad too!!
You definitly need and deserve the new flooring there are some awesome laminates out there. I love the distressed look myself. You know I'm missing TV. Lovin' the dark chocolate thing too.
That list was RAD. Getting new flooring put in a house you currently live in<--NOT RAD!
Hello RAD lady! Thanks for the cute card a couple weeks ago--we need to get together soon. It was fun to find your blog-you crack me up!
The first 2-3 weeks we were in our house we put in wood floors. I wouldn't trade them for anything. Very easy to keep up. We put laminate in the last house--hated it. I have seen some pretty great looking tile wood. Just don't get anything to smooth or shiny. Thant's my two cents. Love ya!
OK, here's my horror story, since you wanted to know:
We closed "bare floor" on our house so we wouldn't have to put in the builder's expensive/ugly flooring. We had to move in before the flooring was done, and it was very annoying and VERY dirty. BUT THEN, the "professionals" who installed the hardwood in the first place screwed it up in a few areas, so it had to be ripped out and replaced about three months later. That was a nightmare! They tore out the flooring in just the kitchen and family room (our whole downstairs is hardwood), and it was shockingly dirty. Even with plastic hanging in front of the staircase, we would have a half-inch of dust and dirt throughout our entire upstairs every morning. It took two weeks for them to finish. It was really annoying to have workers in our house everyday, and Anthony was working and finishing up his rotations at the time, so he was never home and I was ALWAYS alone with strange men, coming in and out of our house all day--it made me very uncomfortable. They never even saw Anthony. I'd have to be very desperate to go through that again. If you are, than it will be worth it.
My brilliant advice:
We have riveting between the slats in our wood, meaning the planks don't meet together flush, they meet at a "V". (Hope that makes sense.) Anyway, it's supposed to make the flooring look fancier, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's a pain to sweep because dirt gets in the cracks. Our floors are dark with a shiny finish, and I like the finish, but it might just be a matter of taste (I know someone else mentioned they don't like that). It's a more dramatic look than the flat finish, fooling everything into thinking we have fancy flooring. We get lots of "oos and ahhs" over it. (Although, Amy has beautiful and dramatic looking hardwood flooring and it has a flat finish. I LOVE her flooring--it's distressed and dark, almost black, in color.) Anyway, the shiny finish won't show anymore footprints than the flat finish, and I actually think it shows less dirt (or maybe all my dirt slides into the cracks). Another recommendation, get the same flooring throughout the entire downstairs if you can. It makes the area seem bigger and more open, as you probably know. But everyone I know that has my same floor plan (half my Ward) only put hardwood or tile in the entryway, dinning room, and kitchen, and then put carpet in the family and living room, and their houses seem WAY smaller than mine. It kind of chops up their space.
If you choose hardwood over tile, be prepared to get little dings from toys being thrown down the staircase, or jars of pickles falling out of the fridge. You just have to think of that as giving your floor character. If you get grainy wood, it will be hard to tell, and either way, nobody will really notice the flaws but you. I wouldn't waste your time or money on laminate. You'll like it for about a month then you'll hate it.
There's my extremely helpful input. I know, I know. I'm totally rad.
Can we have the annoucement now on who you REALLY voted for??????
Well, I had laminate in my last house and I installed it myself (by myself I mean Morgan and his friends, of course) and it was easy and cheap. I loved the floor too. It was very very durable and looked good, I thought. You do need to budget extra money for eating out for every meal for a week though. In my house that I am in now, I have hardwood. I got a really rustic hardwood and it is light and dark in color. It was about 7 or 8 times more expensive and it is not as durable as the laminate. My laminate never really got dinged up but my hardwood is all dinged and we have only been in our house for a little over a year. I do think my hardwood looks way better than my laminate did but when I built this house, I built it thinking I want to move in a couple of years and I would get better money if I had the real wood. When I move again though, I might consider doing the laminate again. It was easier and very cheap and looked good. I have seen a lot of laminate that I had to look up close to be able to tell that it wasn't real. Now on to more important issues. I am totally annoyed abut the writer's strike. Just give them whatever they want, I am going crazy. Without t.v., I am forced to read and clean my house and I am now checking blogs 3 or 4 times a day and a lot of people only update once a week. It gets a little repetative rereading all the blog and the comments several times a day. We NEED t.v. to survive. Maybe I should join the picket lines to speed things up.
Hey if you join the lines I will. Thanks for all the advice to you peeps. It helps knowing someone who's "had it" wether that be laminate or hard wood. And for the announcement on the vote: Can I get a HOLLA for Mitt?
